Last night’s candidate forum was an important moment in this campaign. As someone with a background in comedy, standing in front of a microphone has never intimidated me — but this wasn’t about getting a laugh. It was about addressing real issues, sharing a vision for Russell Township, and speaking to a community I call home with you. Politics in 2025 carries a weight and intensity that’s very different from making people laugh, and I felt that difference in every word I spoke.
I want to sincerely thank the League of Women Voters of Geauga County for hosting the event and for coordinating with the Russell Township Police Department to provide security for the evening and for me personally. As many know, I have received death threats simply for running for office. Having security present wasn’t just about safety — it was about ensuring that democracy can be practiced without fear or intimidation. I especially want to thank Chief Tom Swaidner and Assistant Chief Scott Lillash for their time, their presence, and the thoughtful conversation we had afterward about township issues. That kind of open, honest communication matters deeply to me.
Thank you to John Ishee for his heartfelt opening remarks about caring for his parents and his genuine heart to serve this community. John will make an excellent trustee, and I’m proud to stand beside him in this race. I also want to thank the other four candidates who participated in the forum for their engagement and the friendly conversations throughout the evening — this is what local democracy should look like.
Additionally, I extend my thanks to the West Geauga School District, Chesterland, and Newbury Board of Trustee candidates who also participated, and to the voters who showed up to listen, learn, and ask thoughtful questions. Your presence gives real meaning to this process.
And finally, thank you to my wife, Erin. Her steady support, care, and behind-the-scenes work make it possible for me to do this. This campaign isn’t something I’m doing alone — it’s something we’re doing together, and I’m deeply grateful for that.
Democracy works best when people show up. Last night, you showed up — and that matters.
P.S. A special thank you to my dad, who has encouraged me to push through the death threats, stay strong, and keep going. His unwavering belief in me has made a difference when it mattered most.
